Every year 80 million fluorescent lights are sent to landfill sites in the UK – despite the fact that each lamp contains enough mercury to pollute 30,000 litres of water beyond a safe level for drinking. Companies now have to think again about how they dispose of these items. A fluorescent tube contains a small amount of the highly toxic and environmentally harmful Mercury.
